A Devore man was arrested on suspicion of placing a pipe bomb with a mechanical timer in a Rancho Cucamonga neighborhood last week, authorities said.

At about 4:30 p.m. on June 3, a Monday, a suspicious device was found along the 9300 block of Lomita Drive, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Residents in the neighborhood were temporarily evacuated while authorities disarmed and removed the pipe bomb.

On June 7, Brian Carreon, 52, was arrested on suspicion of possession of explosives in public.

Chemicals and other materials police say are consistent with making explosives were found during a search of his home, they said.

Carreon, a convicted felon, was also storing chemicals used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, a stolen firearm and ammunition at the residence, a sheriff’s statement said.

Carreon is believed to have been targeting a resident, Gloria Huerta, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Department asked that anyone with more information on the case to call investigators at 909-477-2800.
