The federal holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom. It came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863. The day marks the formal end of slavery after the Civil War.

MENIFEE
The Menifee Juneteenth Celebration will be Saturday, June 15, at Mt. San Jacinto College’s Menifee Valley Campus.
The free event is set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature vendors, live entertainment, informational booths, educational workshops, activities and a kids zone.

MORENO VALLEY
The city’s free Juneteenth celebration will be Saturday, June 15.
The event, set for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the main lot of the Civic Center Amphitheater, will feature food, music, artists, dancers and games, including a domino tournament and a kids’ electric car racetrack.

The fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration at Fairmount Park in Riverside is scheduled for Saturday, June 15.
Hosted by the B.L.A.C.K. Collective, the free event will run from 1 p.m. to 6 pm. It will include vendors and music.

A Juneteenth Family Festival is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, at a Riverside church.
The event, set for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., will include health screenings, food, poetry, music, face painting and gaming trucks at Mt. Rubidoux Church, 5320 Victoria Ave.

San Bernardino County
REDLANDS
Redlands’ Juneteenth Festival will be Sunday, June 16, at Sylvan Park.
It will feature live performances, a kids’ zone, vendors, food trucks and a dominoes and spades tournament. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The sponsors include Unity in the Community, the Redlands Police Department, The Village SBC, San Bernardino Valley College and the University of Redlands. The park is at 601 N. University St.
In addition, the Redlands’ Juneteenth Freedom Awards reception will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Contemporary Club, 173 S. Eureka St., Redlands.

RIALTO
The Juneteenth Jam, with the theme “It’s a Family Affair,” is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, at Fergusson Park.
The event, set for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include entertainment, games, a car show and community resources. Youths can play basketball and use the skate park. A movie will be screened.

SAN BERNARDINO
Cal State San Bernardino will host the second annual Love4Us Juneteenth Freedom Celebration on Wednesday, June 19.
The day-long event, which according to the , aims to “impart wisdom, knowledge and understanding upon those who attend and to demonstrate what true LOVE4US looks like in deed, word and practice.”
The event will include details about an academic pathway to the university, seminars, and a musical performance by Goldie Woods. There will also be a kids’ zone and a across campus.

CLAREMONT
The Claremont Baha’i community will host its first Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 22.
The event, set for noon to 4 p.m., will be at Blaisdell Park, 440 S. College Ave.
It will include food, drumming performances and a speech by Derik Smith, a Claremont McKenna College associate professor of literature who focuses on African American literature.

POMONA
The free Pomona Valley Juneteenth Family Jazz & Arts Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, at Ganesha Park.
The 34th event, set for 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., will include a VIP reception in the community center at 10 a.m., a noon gospel concert and jazz, rhythm and blues and other music until 6:30 p.m.
