Between , and customers’ suspicions of what’s been called greedflation, the dining industry is on edge in Southern California.

But so far this year, big restaurant closures have been mostly outside of Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

was the first chain to close multiple locations, 36, after New Year’s Day, but only one Fresno restaurant was in California.

Florida-based Red Lobster in mid-May, a few days later. The chain cited financial and operational challenges, but a $20 all-you-can-eat shrimp deal offered last fall was blamed for cutting into profitability and slowing down service. Closures included 9345 Monte Vista Ave, Montclair.

Carlsbad-based announced it was in California on May 31, surprising many employees. San Diego County took the heaviest hit, with 13 closures, but Eastvale lost one, in Cloverdale Marketplace at 12648 Limonite Ave., as did Ontario’s Daybreak Plaza, 980 Ontario Mills Drive, Suite A. A restaurant in Adelanto, north of Victorville at 14148 U.S. Highway 395 also shut down.

Hooters joined the club this week, shuttering an undisclosed number of restaurants nationwide. None is in Southern California, which has locations in Costa Mesa, Long Beach and Ontario, plus two in San Diego County. But Riverside’s Hooters, along the 215 Freeway at 6225 Valley Springs Parkway No. 17, closed several months ago.

Other notable closures this year were reported by John Plessel in his weekly Dine 909 column. They include several fast food outlets and craft breweries.

Riverside County

Craft Brewing Company, Riverside: This brewery was founded in Lake Elsinore in 2010 but moved to Riverside in 2022, although it maintained a taproom and restaurant in its home Town. It in a Facebook post on May 7.

Placita Riverside: This full service restaurant at 1805 University Ave. was prized by Yelp users for its authentic Mexican cuisine. It on Facebook in May.

Stone Church Brewing & Bistro: This Corona Brewery closed its downtown Riverside restaurant, at 3737 Main St No. 160, on June 2, according to an . Its Corona location at 2785 Cabot Drive, Suite 160, is still open, according to its Facebook page.

San Bernardino County

Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, San Bernardino: This location, 745 E Hospitality Lane Suite C., was the last in the Inland Empire for this fast casual chain that boasts farm-fresh ingredients. You can still find it in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Claim Jumper Steakhouse & Bar: This full-service chain quietly pulled up stakes in Rancho Cucamonga several months ago. It was at 12499 Foothill Blvd., on the east side of the 15 Freeway. One location remains in the IE, at 1905 Commercenter E.

Which Wich? Rialto: This sandwich shop closed at 1185 W Renaissance Parkway, Suite 310, leaving locations in Murrieta and Eastvale.
