Re “Biden: Exit was for democracy” (July 25):
President Biden tells us all that he’s dropping out of the presidential race for democracy. Really? The current administration is promoting big government, more control over you and me, and steering us right into socialism. Yes, this wasn’t the entire reason for Venezuela’s problems, but it certainly helped take them into their present situation. The only thing worse than Biden not running again is to have Kamala Harris in the driver’s seat.
She helped make a mess of San Francisco (along with ɫ̳om) and her experience in international affairs is a joke. I truly fear for our country and its place in the world were she to be elected. While some may not like Trump, he certainly made some good moves during his time in office, moves that were immediately erased in 2020. I truly fear for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren if we continue in the direction we’re currently headed.

Harris’s VP pick
It should be Mark Kelly because he would balance the ticket since 1) He’s older (but not old) and White and male. 2) He was an active Navy fighter pilot and an accomplished astronaut. 3) As a U.S. senator, he has relevant experiences. 4) Being from AZ he may well bring “the lost” to side with him! 5) His wife’s near-assassination might put Trump’s in a more proper perspective. 6) And he’s not from California!

Biden’s successes while in office are significant
Re “‘Unmatched record of Biden’s presidency” (July 24):
Biden’s record may not be unmatched but there have been significant successes. The editorial only refers to perceived and unfair criticism. For example, the end of the pandemic led to increased inflation in almost every major economy, some more than the U.S. and some less. It was unavoidable. Biden followed immigration law that Trump sidestepped then when a bipartisan bill was negotiated in the Senate, Trump stopped it. Biden’s Infrastructure Act is aiding the whole country’s roads, bridges and internet access.
The Chips and Science Act brings back manufacture of semiconductors in America and other technological improvements. Biden was also responsible for lowering drug prices. There are many other less heralded accomplishments.

Some more Trump shooting takeaways
OK, here is a second opinion for Jake Paul and Matt Fleming’s“Wrong takeaways from shooting” (July 21) from someone who has “cracked open a Bible” or two. It’s not just that he lived, but that former president and current candidate Trump lived, and that he miraculously (we should all be so “lucky”) survived an attack. The Bible is rife with individuals chosen to lead under threat of death: Abraham, Moses, Sampson, etc. And why would you love it if he was less vindictive when he has already reconciled with Nikki Haley, J. D. Vance and others? Not to mention he never even tried to “lock her up.” Which leads to how can you not heap enough scorn on the so called Justice Department, FBI and other deep state actors who have betrayed American principles and literally attacked Trump supporters (Gen. Michael Flynn among others.)

Harris as president
Harris is not the best choice to replace an aging president. Campaigns rely heavily on donations. To keep the millions donated to the Biden-Harris campaign, Harris was the only choice. VP pick will be orchestrated by the Democratic political machine, as everything else has been. Shapiro may be a good pick for Harris, but his Jewish background is likely to upset her friends on the far left of the Democratic Party. Andy Beshear of Kentucky could get the nod for VP. There is no evidence that Kamala Harris is a leader, except perhaps to little school children, but the media bullhorns will drown out this as well as all her other faults. Trump’s faults will be hammered by left-wing media outlets in one voice over multiple outlets until election time.
