A man was in critical condition after he was electrocuted by a power line, fell nearly 20 feet and was impaled on a fence in Riverside on Friday, Feb. 9, authorities said.

Around 3:30 p.m., the victim was working on the roof of a business along the 5900 block of Jasmine Street, according to the Riverside Fire Department. The man came into contact with an energized power line, knocking him off the roof and falling around 20 feet.

The man was impaled on an iron fence.

He was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived and was taken to a hospital in critical condition after he was extricated from the fence, authorities said. The man suffered severe burns along with injuries from the impalement.

An update on his condition was not immediately available on Saturday.

One firefighter also suffered minor injuries during the rescue.
