Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which this year is also on , Feb. 14.

It’s the time of year when on Fridays leading up to Easter. Many replace it with fish.

It’s also the time of year when seafood chains freshen their menus and restaurants that specialize in burgers tout their fish sandwiches.

Here are what some chains are promoting. Several of their websites include information their intended to avoid harm to the environment.

Fish and seafood restaurants

Bluewater Grill: The seasonal special is “France versus Italy,” specifically bouillabaisse and cioppino. A daily menu varies by location and availability. Meals start at $25.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.: The menu includes a salmon and shrimp plate. Meals start around $21.

California Fish Grill: A Fire-Grilled Shrimp & Swai combo featuring mild white fish and a shrimp skewer, is available with two house sides and choice of sauce for $12.99, according to the Newport Beach-based chain. The menu also includes such favorites as fish and chips and clam chowder.

Chart House: “Dock to Dine” entrées include salmon, sea bass, ahi tuna and mahi. Meals start around $32.

King’s Fish House: There is a wide range of fish and seafood on the menu, from such entrées as trout amandine and blackened wild Mexican yellowtail to a tuna melt and a grilled octopus caponata appetizer. Wild Oregon Dungeness crab is . Meals start around $25.

Market Broiler: Friday Fish Fries throughout the Lenten season include four pieces of beer-battered Artic cod, french fries, and coleslaw for $19.89, according to the Riverside-based company, which was founded in 1989. Other weekday deals are available for the same price.  

Red Lobster: The full service chain’s Lobsterfest promotion is on with new items. They include Crispy Lobster & Shrimp Stack, featuring crispy lobster tail meat, shrimp and hush puppies over a bed of fries, according to a news release; Lobster & Shrimp Lover’s Dream, lobster tails paired with shrimp linguini alfredo; and Lobster Flatbread. Meals start around $20.

Rubio’s Coastal Grill: New entrées include a Puerto Nuevo Burrito with wild-caught langostino lobster and two items featuring grilled shrimp marinated in guajillo lime seasoning, according to a news release. They are a taco plate and a shrimp bowl. The Carlsbad-based quick service chain calls itself the “,” which is made with wild-caught Alaskan pollock, according to its website.

Wahoo’s Fish Taco: Customers can choose wild-caught fish or salmon for their protein, according to the Tustin-based chain’s website. Entrées include tacos, enchiladas and bowls.

Water Grill: California spiny lobster and California Dungeness crab are featured on the menu, according to the chain’s website. Dinners start around $35.

Other chains

Arby’s: The “we have the meats” chain also has several fish sandwiches for a limited time, according to its website, including the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich, featuring fish filet, cheddar cheese and tartar sauce on a toasted King’s Hawaiian Roll. Two sandwiches, Crispy Fish and Fish ‘n Cheddar, are included in Arby’s 2 for $6 promotion.

Del Taco: The Lake Forest-based chain is partnering with Escondido-based Stone Brewing on a Beer Battered Crispy Fish Taco made with Stone Buenaveza Salt & Lime Lager, according to a new release. The price is two for $5. Del Taco also has Original Crispy Jumbo Shrimp Tacos at for $6 and a Crispy Jumbo Shrimp Burrito for $6.29.

McDonald’s: The chain’s annual discounts on begin Feb. 16 and run through March 29 at participating Southern California restaurants, according to representatives. The sandwiches will cost $2.99 on Fridays, and app users can get them for $2.50.
