Police fatally shot a man inside The Home Depot in Fontana on Monday evening, Feb. 26, who they said had armed himself with an edged weapon.

Around 6 p.m., Fontana police responded to multiple reports of a man running into the roadway at Santa Ana and Sierra avenues, where he appeared to be trying to get hit by a car, Officer Steven Reed said.

Police pursued him and he ran into the nearby Home Depot store, at 16783 Santa Ana Ave.

The man, whose identity was not immediately released, armed himself with an edged weapon, was shot by police and pronounced dead at the scene, Reed said.

On Monday night, police did not provide a detailed description of the weapon or further describe the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

When asked Tuesday for more information, police declined to provide it.
