The University of Redlands, in partnership with Esri, will host a tree giveaway for residents of Redlands and the surrounding area 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11.

Two free trees per household will be available for drive-through pickup in front of Memorial Chapel on the University of Redlands campus, 1200 E. Colton Ave., and the supply will be replenished every hour.

This is the fifth year Esri and the university have partnered to give away trees in an effort to fortify the region’s urban forest and promote environmental stewardship, according to a news release.

The trees are small saplings and will be in tiny pots, with instructions for planting and maintenance. Species may include honey mesquite, African sumac and dragon trees.

Some larger fruit and shade trees will be available for those who can provide proof of residence in designated urban heat islands or underserved communities, according to the news release.
