A woman jogging on a trail in the mountains north of Fontana last weekend was attacked by a man with a knife who also tried to sexually assault her, authorities said Wednesday, May 22.

On Saturday at around 3:42 p.m., the Fontana Police Department received a call from a woman who said she was assaulted by a man along the trail in the 4100 block of Foxborough Drive. The suspect confronted the victim and slashed her with a knife, police said.

The man also allegedly tried to sexually assault the victim, police said. She fought off the attacker and managed to run away and call police. She suffered minor injuries.

Since the crime occurred in a county area,  police have turned the investigation over to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect, who remained on the loose Wednesday, is described as a white man, around 25 years old, with blonde hair. Anyone with information regarding the alleged assault can contact the sheriff’s department at 909-387-3700.
